WHO IS STEFAN MASTALLER?

Former Pro Cyclist - Coach - Event Manager - GCN Coachin Expert - from Vienna, Austria.
Already during my pro career, I was in the fortunate position to work at a charity event in 2017 where I coached “non cyclists” to ride a three day long event. With the end of my career in 2021 I started to pick up more and more responsibilities in various areas. I am constantly looking for new challenges. Next to my coaching business I run and develop cycling events and consult different companies like the Global Cycling Network. See projects for more.

PROCYCLING AS A PASSION

Racing for Sportland Niederösterreich and Austrian Nationalteam. Racing on the road and on the track I traveled the world for ranking points and fight for qualification for European- and World Championships as well as the Olympic Games.

THE FIRST PEDALSTROKES

I started with doing sports as a (very) modest football player. As I got older (12 years old, to be precise) I knew I had to try out new things. A very cheap road bike from Ebay I joined the first cycling club out of curiosity. This meant three training sessions a week around and in Vienna and my parents eventually bought me proper equipment. Soon I was travelling through Austria racing every weekend. As a 17 year old I raced for the first time internationally with the U17 year old National Team. My hobby turned into my profession and soon I was flying around the world going around in circles on my bike.

WHY CYCLING

Racing for yourself: On the track, you are all by yourself. No teams, no help from others.
Just the 24 best riders in the world competing against each other.

Racing as a team: Not everyone thinks of cycling as a team sport. Turns out it is. Road cycling has more to do with team sports than most other sports. Of course, only one is the winner in the end, but getting there is only possible by the support of a team. Only one will go to the podium and celebrate, while the other disappear in the team bus and go back to the hotel

THINGS I AM INTERESTED IN:

  • In my little garden in the suburbs of Vienna I find my peace.

  • Brand new hard and software excites me. I used to work for a software company and studied computer science.

  • Austria might be a small country but being up to date in national and international politics is harder that some might think!

  • Selfmade in my Rancilio Espressomaker, or in a famous Viennesa coffeehouse.

  • Consuming news became a little bit of an addiction.

  • I also like dogs, but I adopted a Tuxedo cat from the local animal shelter. Her name is Bonnie.

  • I traveled the whole world for racing and I am still in the lucky position to travel a lot for my jobs.
